Myeolchi Festival in Daebyeon Port, Gijang County

A sardine festival held at Daebyeon Port on the east coast of Busan

This is a sardine festival held every year at the end of April at Daebyeong Port in Gijang-gun, about an hour's drive from downtown Busan.

Near Daebyeon Port in Gijang County is the Lotte Mall Dong Busan branch, which opened in 2015 and houses a Lotte Outlet and Lotte Mart. Yonggungsa Temple, which is visited by many local residents, is also located there, so you can combine shopping and sightseeing with participating in the Sardine Festival, which is held at this time of year.

The Gijang Anchovy Festival offers a feast for the eyes and mouths of tourists with activities such as tasting raw anchovy, a Gijang specialty, and watching fishermen in blue raincoats pull ropes vigorously to the rhythm of the music as the silver anchovies fall from the rope.

You can enjoy myeolchi dishes at reasonable prices, including a plate full of myeolchi, which is made by tossing freshly caught myeolchi with vegetables such as cabbage and celery in a spicy sauce.

In addition to the above, various fish-related events are held here, and the beautiful fishing village was used to capture the childhood scenes of Korean actors Jang Dong-gun and Yoo Oh-sung in the 2001 film "To My Friend."
