Dongnae Eupseong

It is a walled castle that surrounded the administrative center of Dongnae-bu during the Joseon Dynasty. When the Imjin War broke out, it became the first target of attack by the Japanese army and was the site of the fierce battle of the Battle of Dongnae Fortress.

Designated Busan Metropolitan City Monument No. 1972 on June 6, 26, Dongnaeupseong is a Joseon Dynasty castle that surrounded the administrative center of Dongnaebu with a wall. With a circumference of 5 kilometers, Dongnaeupseong is a typical flatland mountain castle that includes hilly land stretching from the mountain behind Chungnyeolsa, passing through Maansan, to the mountain behind Dongnaehyanggyo, as well as flat land up to Dongnae Market, the center of Dongnae today. It is a representative Korean eupseong that combines the advantages of both mountain castles and flatland castles.

The restored north gate and castle walls of Dongnae Fortress, as well as the original stone walls from when the castle was built, remain.

When the Imjin War broke out on April 1592, 4, it became the first target of attack by the Japanese army that landed in Busan, along with Busanjinseong, and was the site of the fiercest battles, where the military, government officials, and civilians fought fiercely, including Dongnaebugo Song Sang-hyeon. Dongnaebugo Song Sang-hyeon, who was admonished for surrender by Konishi Yukinaga and others who attacked Dongnaeseong, wrote back "It is easy to die in battle, but difficult to choose a path," refusing to surrender, and was killed in battle.

This is Bukjangdae, located on the top of the mountain. You can get a panoramic view of the downtown area of Dongnae.

Dongnaeupseong Fortress, first constructed during the Three Kingdoms period, was rebuilt from the end of Goryeo to the beginning of Joseon, and was abandoned after the Imjin War. In 1731, however, it was expanded to its current size by Dongnaebugasa Jeong Eon-seop. At the time, it had four gates - East Gate, West Gate, South Gate and North Gate - but during the Japanese Empire period, the castle walls on the flat ground were demolished without a trace. Only the remaining mountain wall, North Gate, Lifengeum Gate, East Command Dae, West Command Dae and North Command Dae have been restored, and remain as they are today.

The Gate of Life was named after the many people who escaped through it during the war and survived.

The Dongnaeupseong History Museum, which opened in March 2007, displays materials related to the Dongnae region and Dongnaeupseong, centering on a model of Dongnaeupseong, and holds the Dongnaeupseong History Festival every year in early October.
