Provisional Capital Memorial Hall

Provisional Capital Memorial Hall

The Provisional Capital Memorial Hall is located near Toseong Station, one stop from Jagalchi Station on Busan Subway Line 1 in Nampo-dong, Busan. When the Gyeongnam Provincial Government Office in Jinju, Gyeongsangnam-do was relocated to Busan on April 1925, 4, the official residence of the Gyeongsangnam-do Governor was built in its current location in August 17 as a two-story wooden brick building with a tiled roof.

It was used as the official residence of the South Gyeongsang Province Governor until the outbreak of the Korean War (1950-1953), but the South Korean army was chased by North Korea and retreated to the Nakdonggang River near Busan, and the capital of the Republic of Korea was moved to Busan on August 8 of that year. The South Gyeongsang Province Provincial Office became the building of the Provisional Government, and the South Gyeongsang Province Governor's Residence was used as the official residence of South Korea's first president, Syngman Rhee.
