Beomeosa Temple's Iljumun Gate

A temple in Geumjeongsan that is counted as one of the three major temples in Yeongnam, along with Haeinsa Temple and Tongdosa Temple.

Bongyoji Temple, located on the 801m high Mount Geumjeong, is the head temple of the Zen sect.Haeinsa Temple,Tongdosa TempleIt is counted as one of the three major temples in South Gyeongsang Province, along with Geumjeongsan. It was named after a story that a beautiful fish that came down on a cloud from the sky was swimming in a spring that welled up in the rocks of Mt. Geumjeong. It is said that there were about 360 buildings at the time of its founding, but they were burned down in 1592 during the Imjin War, and the current building was reconstructed in 1713.

The majestic Iljumun Gate at the entrance to the temple is supported by four stone pillars, and once you pass through this gate, the towering Daeungjeon Hall behind it is said to be a masterpiece of mid-Joseon architecture and is the oldest wooden structure in the Busan area. The three-story stone pagoda in the garden of the Daeungjeon Hall was built in the 4th century and survived being burned down during the Imjin War. There are also many other cultural assets such as the Kannon Hall and Jizo Hall.

Iljumun Gate
It is Busan's designated tangible cultural property No. 2. It has a dynamic structure with four tall stone pillars, short wooden pillars on top of each other, and multiple arches to make the roof thicker and with the weight of the eaves holding the pillars in place.

Tennomon Gate

The Great Hero Hall
Treasure No. 434. A building from the mid-Joseon period. It is a multi-bay style building with three rooms in the front and three on the side. The roof is a gabled roof and there are no arches on the sides. Inside, there is a rear Buddha wall between two interior pillars, and in front of it, a large Buddha statue occupies the center of the building.

Three-story stone tower
Treasure No. 25. A stone pagoda made of granite in the late Silla period (around the 9th century). It is 4m tall and has three floors with a double base. The base is extremely high compared to the body of the pagoda, giving it a unique shape with the first floor body more than twice the length of the second floor.

Stone lantern
Tangible Cultural Property No. 16, believed to be from the 9th century. Moved to its current location from in front of Yeonghajong. A stone lantern with a basic octagonal shape typical of the Unified Silla period.

directions:Enter the road between exits 1 and 5 of Beomeosa Station on Busan Subway Line 7 and walk a short distance to reach city bus stop No. 90 bound for Beomeosa Temple. Alternatively, Beomeosa Temple is about 3.43 km from the subway station, so if you have time you can also walk there.
