Gamcheon Culture Village is an impressive place with colorful houses lined up like a village on the mountain slope.
When viewed from Busan Port, where passenger ships travelling between Korea and Japan arrive, Busan has an impressive sight of colorful houses lined up like a village on the mountain slope, but this was formed by refugees who fled from North Korea during the Korean War (1950-1953). At the time, when a house was built in front of another house, a stepped village was naturally created so that the houses behind would not get too much sunlight, and even now, more than 50 years later, this stepped village has been preserved exactly as it was.

In 2009, the 2009 Village Art Project was launched to redevelop the impoverished village and rediscover the cultural charm of the village that had shared joys and sorrows with the local residents for half a century. Today, it has been reborn as the artistic Gamcheon Culture Village, which is also visited by many foreign tourists. Many people, including photographers, tourists, and artists, are drawn to the unique scenery of this town.

Gamcheon Culture Village is a collaborative project between 10 artists from Busan who have turned five vacant houses into artistic spaces with different themes, such as the House of Peace, House of Light, House of Darkness, a photo gallery, and a book cafe. By following the arrows painted on the walls of the houses in the alleys, you won't get lost and can enjoy the colorful village scenery and paintings that can be seen from the houses, the artistic buildings, and the real lives of the people who live there.
It is also a popular location for filming movies and TV dramas, and the KBS drama "Hero," starring Uhm Tae-woong as "Man from the Equator" and starring Takuya Kimura and Lee Byung-hun, was filmed in this village.
