Dongnae Halmae Pajeon

Located in the northern part of Busan, it has long been the center of administration and national defense, home to Dongnae Hot Springs, Dongnaeupseong Fortress, and the Bokcheon-dong Tombs, which are the tombs of the ruling class in the Busan area and demonstrate the prosperity of Gaya culture. It is also home to Dongnae Halmae Pajeon, a restaurant specializing in Pajeon (a pancake with green onions), a local dish that represents Dongnae.

At the time, it became popular among merchants and shoppers at the nearby Dongnae Market, and Dongnae Halme Pajeon became so famous that many people would make the journey to Dongnae just to eat it.

Dongnae Halmae Pajeon, founded in 1930 and now designated as a traditional local restaurant in Busan, is a little different from the typical pajeon, being thick and fluffy and soft overall. The dough is made with glutinous rice flour instead of regular wheat flour, mixed with beef broth, and fresh green onions, beef, oysters (only available in winter), scallops, shrimp, etc. grown near Busan are stuffed inside the pajeon and steamed in the traditional way.

In 2007, the restaurant was renovated and remodeled into a spacious restaurant with seating for 150 people. In the center of the first floor, you can see the pajeon being baked through a glass window. Why not visit the Beomeosa Temple in Busan and try the unique Dongnae-style pajeon?
