Busan, a city with both mountains and sea, served as the temporary capital of South Korea during the Korean War that broke out in 1950. Local cuisine developed further thanks to the refugees, and among them, dishes like tteokbokki (soup soup) and milmyeon (sweet potato soup) are still beloved by Busan residents today. Busan also boasts thriving food streets serving seafood dishes like nakchi bokkeum (chicken stew), haemultang (seafood hotpot), and shellfish grills, as well as tteok galbi (ribs), samgyeopsal (salmon belly), and gopchangyaki (grilled pork).
