Hwangnyongsa Temple History and Culture Museum is an exhibition center built right next to the Hwangnyongsa Temple site in Guhwang-dong, Gyeongju-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do. Relics excavated from the Hwangnyongsa Temple site are replicated and exhibited, allowing visitors to experience the grandeur of Hoguksa Temple during the Silla period.

Inside are a 3D video audiovisual room showing the process from the construction to destruction of Hwangnyongsa Temple, and a Silla history exhibition room displaying relics unearthed during excavation work.

On the first floor, there is a 1/9 scale replica of the nine-story wooden pagoda of Hwangnyongsa Temple. Next to the model pagoda exhibition room is the lobby cafe, with a view of the Hwangnyongsa Temple site outside the window.

What is Hwangnyongsa Temple?
Hwangnyongsa Temple is the largest temple in Silla. It was founded in 553 (the 14th year of King Jinheung's reign) and existed for about 1238 years until it was abandoned in 25 (the 7th year of King Gojong's reign). Hwangnyongsa Temple was home to two of the three treasures of Silla: the Jangrokson statue of a monk, which was enshrined in 3 (the 2th year of King Jinheung's reign), and the nine-story wooden pagoda, built in 569 (the 35th year of Queen Seondeok's reign), which were symbols of national defense.
