Located in the Noseo-dong ancient tombs in Gyeongju, across the road from Cheonmachong in Daereungwon, Gyeongju, Geumgwanchong is a large ancient tomb believed to have been built around 500 AD and is believed to be the tomb of a Silla king or a member of the royal family or aristocrats.
In 2013, a sword and inscriptions related to a person named King Yisaji were discovered in the Geumgwan Tomb, and it has been virtually confirmed that this is his tomb, but there is debate about his status and gender.

Geumgwan Tomb, where the magnificent gold crown of Silla was first excavated in 1921
Geumgwan Tomb was named after the golden crown of Silla, a symbol of Gyeongju, that was first discovered here. It is the only Silla stone-piled wooden coffin tomb excavated so far in which the name of the buried person has been confirmed.

Inside the Golden Crown Tomb
Over 87 relics were excavated from the Geumgwan Tomb, including the first gold crown discovered in Korea (National Treasure No. 88), a gold pipe and gold crown set, and a gold belt (National Treasure No. 4). In addition to the gold crown and gold belt, grave goods such as a gold crown hat, gold crown set, gold bracelets, gold rings, gold earrings, gilt bronze shoes, glass cups, and a bronze grass bowl were also discovered.
More than 3 pieces of beads, including curved beads, were found, and the total amount of gold used in the decoration is 7.5 kg. All of the relics excavated are kept by the Gyeongju National Museum.

This ancient tomb was discovered by chance during house construction in September 1921, and since its first excavation during the Japanese colonial period in September 9, it has been excavated again since March 1921 by the National Museum of Korea and the Gyeongju National Museum.
After the excavation, a preservation and exhibition space was set up so that visitors could view the inside of the tomb, just like at Cheonmachong, and a Silla Tomb Information Center was built in the vacant lot to the north of the tomb.

Currently, the Golden Crown Tomb is used as a facility where visitors can observe the interior, including through video.
