Opened in Gyeongju around 1980 by its president, Lee Pung-nyeo, who hails from Jeonju, a city famous for its Korean cuisine, Kuro Sanbap has now become a famous Gyeongju gourmet spot that is constantly visited by Korean tour groups and foreign tourists just for its sanbap.

A long line of side dishes line the table. Sambap is a healthy dish perfect for health-conscious modern people. It contains raw and boiled vegetables, and not only vegetables but also kelp and wakame seaweed, so you can enjoy a variety of flavors. There are a whopping 28 types of side dishes served with the freshly wrapped vegetables. Those who eat it for the first time will be surprised by the number of plates lined up one after another on the table. It is a level of hospitality that is unimaginable for Japanese people who are used to the price per plate in Japan.

Here's how to eat ssambap. Wrap the vegetables in your cleaned hands. Place rice, side dishes and ssamjang on top, wrap it up, and then just open your mouth wide and eat. It's simple, but be careful not to be greedy and put in too much rice and side dishes. Think about the size of your mouth and wrap it up to a size that you can eat in one bite.
