Hello, this is the World Heritage Site located in the northern part of Gyeongju.Yangdong VillageUpon entering Yangdong Village, you will see the straw-and-tiled hanok houses from the Joseon Dynasty built on a hill. The most prominent of these is the Hyangdan (Incense Altar), built by Professor Lee Eon-deok, a native of Yangdong Village and one of the leading Confucian scholars of the Joseon Dynasty, when he was appointed governor of Gyeongsang Province.

About 11 kilometers west of this ethnic village, the memorial tablet of Professor Lee Eon-jo is enshrined.Tamayama AcademyAbout 700 meters north of there is the former home of Master Li Yan-di, Torattan.

Doratdang, the former home of Yi Eon-deok, is a structure from the mid-Joseon period that was built in 1516 after he returned to his hometown after being forced to resign from his position at court. A traditional house of a yangban (a nobleman) during the Yi dynasty consists of an anchae (main building), a sarangchae (private quarters), a haengrangchae (front porch) and a sadang (shrine). Doratdang is the sarangchae where Yi Eon-deok lived, and just behind the sarangchae is Gyejeong, an outbuilding built on top of natural rocks in a valley with a stream running through it.

In the hanok houses of Yangdong Village, the sarangchae is located just inside the main gate, but in the case of Dokdang, the path from the main gate to the sarangchae is designed to be a unique maze-like space.

Treasure No. 413, Dokakudang, located above the lush green valley of Oksan Seowon, is currently inhabited by the teacher's descendants. Advance reservations are required to visit Dokakudang, but it might be a good idea to visit both Oksan Seowon and Dokakudang while sightseeing in Gyeongju Yangdong Village.
