Singyeongju StationIf you use the KTX (Gyeongbu High Speed Railroad), you can easily get to Gyeongju, the capital of the ancient kingdom of Silla, also known as the Open Sky Museum, from Busan or Seoul. You can encounter the diverse cultures unique to Gyeongju, such as the Buddhist culture of Silla, the Confucian culture of the Yi Dynasty, and the Kofun period when primitive religions flourished. In this diverse city, there is a restaurant famous for its seafood and the winter delicacy of blowfish hotpot.

Samyeongbosittang is a restaurant that is always bustling with Gyeongju locals, as Gyeongju's court and police station are located nearby and there are relatively few tourists visiting the area.
When the fugu pot containing enough fugu, bean sprouts, and minari (Korean parsley) for each person is boiling, the ajumoni (auntie) from the restaurant comes and takes out only the steaming bean sprouts from the pot, puts them in a stainless steel container containing chili paste and sesame oil that have been prepared in advance, and mixes them together until they turn red right in front of you. This is the fugu dish where the cooked fugu meat and fugu soup are seasoned with the red bean sprouts.
The restaurant's owner said that since many people in Gyeongsang-do like spicy and salty food, they made the bean sprouts in their puffer fish hotpot spicy, and many customers came just to eat the bean sprouts. Even today, ruins from that time are scattered throughout the city, and you'll come across them just by walking around Gyeongju, so why not try the luxurious and delicious king of winter delicacies, puffer fish?
