Large Gejang Sundubu Geumseongkang

Geumseongkan Large Gejang Sundubu

Food from Gyeongju, the millennium capital of the Silla Dynasty, includes ssambap, rice and side dishes wrapped in leafy vegetables, and spicy soondubu jjigae, made with soft tofu. The restaurant I would like to introduce today serves Dae Gejang Soondubu, which is a little different from the typical spicy meat or seafood-based soondubu, and allows you to fully enjoy the flavor of snow crab in crab miso and the sweet taste of the crab meat.

The restaurant's Dae Gejang Sundubu is a dish made by adding soft Sundubu to an extract of snow crab legs, miso, and shells, giving it a rich crab flavor that is similar to eating snow crab miso mixed with rice.

Gyeongju Intercity Bus TerminalThis restaurant is so famous that if you ask the lady at the Gyeongju Tourist Information Center near the restaurant, you will get an answer right away. It is located in a residential area not far from the tourist attractions in Gyeongju city, and although it is served by Gyeongju city buses, it is easier to access it by regular taxi.

When you enter the restaurant, which has a parking lot in front of the entrance, you will see pictures of various types of gejang with prices written on them along with the words, "We are selling gejang at reasonable prices to all customers who visit Geumsongkang!". This restaurant also sells ready-made "Daigaejang" and "gejang" so that you can easily make and eat Daegaejang Sundubu at home.

"Dai Gejang (Snow Crab), Ganjang Gejang (Crab marinated in soy sauce), Ganjang Gejang (Crab marinated in spices), Salted oysters, Seafood Pajeon, Freshwater Ganjang Gejang, and Ripe persimmon ice cream."

After ordering the main dish, a large Gejang Sundubu, and waiting for a while, a freshly cooked kimchi pancake (jeon) is brought to you on a hot iron plate. After you finish the spicy kimchi pancake with rice cakes, seven side dishes are served on the table, including yellow rice cooked in a pot using famous water drawn from a nearby mountain, rolled eggs, salted oysters, Chinese cabbage kimchi (aged kimchi), tofu steak, bean sprout namul, and boiled radish leaves.

After serving the rice cooked in the stone pot, you can enjoy nurungji soup, which is made by pouring water into the piping hot stone pot, or ripe persimmon ice cream as a palate cleanser.

They also have seafood pajeon (Korean-style pancake) on a hot stone plate. The seafood pajeon, which contains green onions, shrimp, turban shells, octopus, and snow crab, has more seafood ingredients than the wheat flour used in the batter, and it's fun just to watch the seafood sizzling on the hot stone plate.
