Gyeongju is a place where you can feel the breath of a thousand years of history, and many ruins from the Goryeo and Joseon dynasties remain within the city.Old Gyeongju StationAdjacent to the former Seongdong Market is the site of Gyeongju Eupseong Fortress, which is believed to have been built in the 3rd year of King Hyeonjong's reign (1012) during the Goryeo Dynasty.

Gyeongju Eupseong Fortress, built of stone across Dongbu-dong and Bukbu-dong in Gyeongju, was a large fortress with a circumference of 2,400 meters and walls 3,6 meters high. However, it was repeatedly destroyed and restored during the Imjin War and the Mongol invasion.
In modern times, most of the castle has been destroyed due to the expansion of Gyeongju city, and now only the 90-meter-long castle walls remain as a vestige of its original appearance.

According to the "New and Expanded Dongguk Yeoji Seungnam," Gyeongju Eupseong had 80 wells, as well as Jogyeongjeon Hall, where the portrait of King Taejo of the Yi dynasty was enshrined. In addition, there were Hyangirmun Gate, Mangmimun Gate, Jeongnyemun Gate, and Gongjinmun Gate on the east, west, north, and south, respectively, and a moat to prevent enemy invasion.Gyeongju National MuseumThe King Seongdeok Divine Bell, which hangs in the garden of the palace, was originally located at the southern gate of Jeongnyemun Gate and is said to have told the time every day. Gyeongju Eupseong Fortress is currently undergoing restoration work.
