The rock-carved Buddha statues at Dansekisan Shinsensa Temple
Hello, Danseoksan, located 827 meters above sea level west of Gyeongju city, is the birthplace of a famous Silla general who defeated Goguryeo and Baekje and made a major contribution to the unification of the three kingdoms of Silla.Kim Yu-shinIt is known as the mountain where Kim Yu-shin trained in his youth, and the name Danseoksan comes from the fact that Kim Yu-shin cut a large rock with a single stroke of his sword during his training.
Sinseonsa Temple, where Kim Yu-shin prayed for the unification of the three kingdoms, is located on the middle of Danseoksan Mountain, and about 50 meters from the temple, there is a huge rock 18 meters high and 3 meters wide lined up in a U-shape that looks as if it has been cut off. The west side is the entrance, and on the east, south, and north rock walls are carved 10 statues of Maitreya Buddha, a standing bodhisattva, a half-seated pensive statue, and an inscription of over 400 characters.
The rock-carved Buddha statues at Danseoksan Sinseonsa Temple, designated National Treasure No. 199, are estimated to have been carved between the end of the 6th century and the beginning of the 7th century, and Danseoksan is designated as part of Gyeongju National Park.
