Gyeongju Namsan is a mountain located south of Gyeongju city and is an important archaeological site where visitors can fully appreciate the Buddhist culture of the Silla period.
The area stretches 8km north to south and 4km east to west and has over 468 peaks, including the twin peaks of Geumopong (494m above sea level) and Gouisan (180m above sea level), and over 40 valleys. Dotted throughout the mountains are numerous relics and Buddhist ruins, including over 100 temple sites, over 80 stone Buddha statues, and over 60 stone pagodas.

Namsan, one of the Gyeongju Historic Areas that was registered as a World Heritage Site in December 2000, is dotted with numerous Buddhist ruins, with temples scattered like stars and pagodas lined up in a row (Sesameseongtapangwangae) according to the Records of the Three Kingdoms. The area boasts beautiful natural scenery that is just as impressive as the numerous cultural ruins.
