Hello, there are many Ulsan specialties, but one of the most famous is the handmade makgeolli at Boksundoga. Boksundoga is a trademark of the traditional homemade alcohol that has been passed down through the family lineage of Kim Jeong-sik and Park Boksun. The trademark was created by combining Park Boksun's name "Bok-sun" with "do" (city) and "ja" (house).

It went on sale in 2010 and was approved as a local specialty liquor by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs in August of the same year. It is also used as a toast at Blue House dinners and as a drink at various international events, and is popular with foreign tourists.

In the early days, Boksundoga was made by hand using natural fermented liquor fermented in earthenware jars, so only about 1 bottles could be produced per day, but with the support of Ulju County's production facilities, it is now possible to produce more than 50 bottles. Unfortunately, we were not able to tour the inside of the makgeolli brewery.

There is a small building next to it, which is a shop where you can buy makgeolli, merchandise, and even sample the drink.

At the Ulsan Boksundoga Makgeolli Brewery, you can sample and purchase various types of makgeolli. When I asked to sample some, they explained the characteristics of the different makgeolli.

The volume is 935ml, and the alcohol content varies depending on the fermentation period, but the pink makgeolli is made from red koji rice and is said to taste similar to basic homemade makgeolli. In addition, Super Dry has a high rice content and is rich in natural carbonation that is naturally produced during the fermentation process of the koji, giving it a refreshing taste and a stronger sourness than sweetness.
Boksundoga Makgeolli is not only available in Ulsan Metropolitan City, but also in Suyeong-gu, Busan and in front of Haeundae Station, so you can easily enjoy homemade makgeolli.
