Birthplace of the 16th President Roh Moo-hyun

When children were asked what they wanted to be when they grew up, more than half said they wanted to be president. Presidents were the adult figures that children looked up to, especially the late President Roh Moo-hyun, who was loved by children. Bongha Village, where the birthplace of the president is located, is located at the foot of Bonghasan Mountain (4.5 meters above sea level), about 140 kilometers east of Jinyong-eup, Gimhae-si.

Bongha Village, named after the village under Mt. Bongha, is a quiet farming village where Jinyong persimmons and rice have been cultivated.

After completing his five-year term, the late President Roh Moo-hyun became the first South Korean president to return to his hometown. There, he worked to create an environmentally friendly village, implementing duck farming methods that do not use chemical fertilizers or pesticides in the rice fields in front of his private residence.

In the yellow building to the right of the village entrance where there is a bus stop with a photo of the late President Roh Moo-hyun on display, a video in memory of the president is being screened, and in the center of the building are yellow notes filled with heartfelt messages of reverence for the president.

A building for remembrance

The birthplace of the late President Roh Moo-hyun was a shabby, small, brick house with a slate roof and two kitchens, but after his death, the traditional rustic thatched-roof house where he lived from birth until age seven was restored and opened to the public in time for the president's birthday on September 2, 7. A black-and-white wedding photo of him in traditional Korean wedding attire is also on the wall of the room.
