Choi Sambangdaek, the setting for Park Kyung-ri's epic novel "The Land," is located at the foot of the gently flowing Seomjin River and the gentle southern foot of Jirisan Mountain, in Pyeongsa-ri, Akyang-myeon, Hadong-gun. Choi Sambangdaek, which has also been used as a filming location for many movies and dramas, including the Korean drama "The Land," has 14 hanok houses built in it, and nearby, a thatched-roof house from the Joseon period that appeared in the drama has been reproduced in a place overlooking the Seomjin River.

This is a shopping street and ticket booth lined up on a gentle slope at the entrance to the filming location for the TV drama "Land."

Farmer's houses with a rural feel

The epic novel "The Land," which began writing in 1969, took 26 years to complete. The story spans Korea's famous holiday, Chuseok, in 1897, until Korea's independence from Japan in 1945, and spans the Korean peninsula, with Japan and Russia as backdrops. The home of a large landowner, Choi So-hee, the daughter of a yangban (a nobleman's family), and her maid, Gil-san, spent their childhood in Chaejam Bangtaek, a place surrounded by the Seomjin River and featuring a typical Korean rural landscape in Hadong Pyeongsa-ri. The aristocratic house of Choi Sambandaek and the surrounding peasant houses, built as filming locations for the drama, were completed in 2002.

Since the completion of Choi Sampandaek, the Pyeongsari Literature Museum of Park Kyeong-ri, who wrote the novel, the Rural Culture and Arts Experience Center, the Traditional Culture Exhibition and Experience Center, and the local market have also been built, making it a popular tourist destination attracting many tourists.
