Located about 4km from Chuncheon Station into the city, the Kangwon University Museum opened in 1985 as an affiliated museum of the National Kangwon University. The four-story building with a stepped exterior houses the Volunteer Army Museum, School History Room, and Special Exhibition Room on the second floor, the Archaeological History Room on the third floor, and the Folklore Museum on the fourth floor.

This is an affiliated museum of the Catholic Kwantung University in Gangneung. In 1964, about 100 Bronze Age artifacts were excavated from Ponam-dong in Gangneung, and the museum opened as a folk museum in 1976, and launched as a comprehensive museum in 1977.
