This is an affiliated museum of the Catholic Kwantung University in Gangneung. In 1964, about 100 Bronze Age artifacts were excavated from Ponam-dong in Gangneung, which led to the opening of the Folk Museum in 1976 and the launch of the general museum in 1977.

The Catholic Kwandong University Museum, which was rebuilt in 2004 into its current three-story building, has four permanent exhibition rooms, including the Archaeology and Art Room, Folk Life Room, Calligraphy and Painting Room, and School History Room, as well as one special exhibition room, a curatorial research room, and a storage facility. It has a collection of over 3 historical relics and folk materials from the Gangwon-Yeongdong region.
