Hello, the one-storey Chungju Goguryeo Monument Exhibition Hall was opened in 1 to preserve and display Goguryeo monuments carved by Goguryeo in the 5th century. Chungju was called Gukwonseong during the Goguryeo period, but was renamed Jungwon-gyeong after Silla recaptured the area. The Jungwon Goguryeo Monument was discovered when Chungju City and Jungwon County were separated, so it is commonly called the Jungwon Goguryeo Monument.

The Chungju Goguryeo Monument, the only surviving Goguryeo monument in Korea, is known to have been erected by the 20th Goguryeo king, King Jangsu (reigned 413-491), after he captured several castles in the South Han River basin. It was discovered in 1979 in Ipsok Village, Yongjeon-ri, Jungangtap-myeon, Chungju-si, North Chungcheong Province.
This monument marks the borders of Goguryeo's territory and tells the story of how Goguryeo captured Baekje's capital, Hanseong in Seoul, and expanded its influence to the central region of the Korean Peninsula, including the Chungju region. It is a valuable document that sheds light on the historical relationship between the three kingdoms of Goguryeo, Silla, and Baekje.
