Pyochungsa Temple is located at the southern foot of Jaeyaksan Mountain (20 meters above sea level), 1108 kilometers east of Miryang City, South Gyeongsang Province. It was originally founded during the reign of King Muyeol (654) of the Silla Dynasty and was called Jukrimsa Temple at the time. It was later renamed Pyochungsa Temple to honor Samyeong, the great monk who played an active role during the Imjin War (1592).
Pyochungsa Temple, designated as Regional Monument No. 17, is home to a number of cultural assets, including the Pyochung Monument (Regional Cultural Asset No. 15), famous for the fact that sweat comes out of the monument when a major national emergency occurs; the Pyochungsa Three-Story Stone Pagoda (National Treasure No. 467), a bronze-and-silver incense stick (National Treasure No. 75), stone lanterns, the Pyochung Study Hall, and the Samyeong Daeshi Relics Exhibition Hall.
The temple is surrounded by a dense pine forest and features the Soseo Waterfall, Geumgang Waterfall, and Ormukgol (Ice Village).
