Geochang Yangpyeong-ri Stone Statue of Nyorai

A tall Buddha statue made at the end of the Unified Silla period

Nohye Village in Yangpyeong-ri is located on the eastern edge of Geochang-gun city. It is said that a temple called Nohyesa or Geumyangsa once stood here. A tall Buddha stands at the site of the temple, where only remains such as foundations and stone lanterns remain. A 3.7-meter-tall standing stone Buddha from the Unified Silla period has stood here with over XNUMX years of history.

This statue's body is not as voluminous as the head, but it has a slim build and excellent proportions, making it an important work that shows the style of giant Buddha sculptures made in the 9th century at the end of the Unified Silla period.
