A Japanese-style wooden house built with Japanese building materials by Zenkichi Hashimoto, who moved to Kuryongpo from Kagawa Prefecture in Japan in the 1920s.
Guryongpo is a small fishing port located on the coast east of Pohang city. The two-story house by Zenkichi Hashimoto, which is used as the Guryongpo Modern History Museum, is a Japanese-style wooden house that gives a glimpse of the townscape of Guryongpo about 2 years ago.
In the 1920s, Zenkichi Hashimoto, who moved to Kuryu-po from Kagawa Prefecture in Japan, built this house using building materials brought directly from Japan. It was a large and magnificent building, so large that it once housed a public bath and the building where his sons lived, both of which no longer exist.
When you go up to the second floor of the history museum, there is a map depicting the townscape of Guryongpo in the 2s. At that time, Guryongpo was a densely packed urban area with Japanese houses and various commercial facilities lined up along neatly maintained main streets, giving you a good idea of how prosperous a town Guryongpo must have been in the past.
