General Gyebaek Relic Site

Hello. In Nonsan city, about an hour's drive from Daejeon city, South Korea, there is the ruins of the Battle of Hwangsanbeol, which marked the end of Baekje, a kingdom that had a major impact on ancient Japan.

In 660, when the allied forces of Silla and Tang invaded Baekje, General Gyebaek of Baekje, who led a suicide squad of 5 men, fought splendidly against the large army of 5 led by Kim Yu-shin of Silla. However, General Gyebaek and the 5 Baekje suicide squad were annihilated at Hwangsan-bul, and Baekje was destroyed.

Located in Sinpung-ri, Bujeok-myeon, Nonsan-si, the General Gyebaek Historic Site includes the grave of General Gyebaek at the foot of the small hill of Suroksan, the Baekje Military Museum, Chungjangsa Shrine where General Gyebaek's memorial tablet is enshrined, and a spot from which you can see Hwangsanbeol.
