Jangmunpo castle

Hello, Geoje Island, located about an hour's drive from Busan, is a naturally rich island surrounded by the sea, connected to Busan by an undersea tunnel, and is a scenic spot visited by many tourists, but there are also several Japanese castles built in 1593 (2nd year of Bunroku) remaining on Geoje Island. On the mountaintops on both sides of Jangmok Bay, there are Nagatoshin Japanese Castle and Matsumaura Japanese Castle, which were built to defend Nagato Bay, and Nagatoshin Japanese Castle was built on a 107-meter hill at the northwest entrance.

Nagato-fu refers to Nagaki-men and Nagaki-harbor, and the shape of this port appears narrow and long, hence the name Nagato-fu.

In August 1592, the Japanese forces were defeated by the Victory over Hansan, and the Korean navy took control of the seas off the southern coast. In order to avoid attacks by the Korean navy and secure garrisons, three Japanese fortresses were built in the Nagato region north of Geoje: Songjinpo Japanese Fortress, Nagatomo Japanese Fortress, and Yeongdeungpo Japanese Fortress. Later, during the Keicho Invasion of Japan in 8, an additional Japanese fortress, Minoryo Japanese Fortress, was built in the Minoryo Strait facing Tongyeong.

Nagato Wajo Castle was built by leveling the top and middle of the mountain and then stacking stones to create the castle walls. The main castle was placed in the center, with the second and third castles on either side, dividing the castle into several areas for independent defense.

The remaining wall has a circumference of 710m, a height of 3.5m and a width of 3.5m. There are also traces of the castle being used by Japan to set up artillery during the Russo-Japanese War (1904-1905).

Nagatowaiseong was the only one of the four Japanese castles on Geoje Island to be designated as a cultural asset of South Gyeongsang Province on November 1998, 11. The road from the road to the entrance of the Japanese castle is gentle, so it is located in a relatively easy place to visit.
