Gaetaesa Temple

Hello. Gaetaesa Temple, located about 35 km southwest of Daejeon Metropolitan City, is the temple where King Wang Geon (Taejo), the founder of the Goryeo Dynasty (918-1392),StatewideThis temple was founded in 936, the same year that Later Baekje, whose capital was in Joseon, was destroyed and the three later kingdoms of the Korean Peninsula were unified.

As the name of the temple suggests, it was founded by Wang Geon, the first king of Goryeo who unified the Later Three Kingdoms, with the wish that the country would be ruled in peace and that the world would continue to be peaceful.

Gaetaesa Temple, located in Cheonho-ri, Yeonsan-myeon, Nonsan City, Chungcheongnam-do, was rebuilt after 1934. The original Gaetaesa site is located about 300 meters north of the current temple, but relics such as the stone standing Buddha Triad (Treasure No. 219), five-story stone pagoda, and iron ore that are said to have been created when the temple was founded are preserved and managed at the current Gaetaesa Temple.

The 4.69-meter-tall Gaetaesa Five-story Stone Pagoda, a stone pagoda from the early Goryeo period influenced by Baekje, is listed as Chungcheongnam-do Cultural Asset Material No. 274.

The original Kaitai-ji site is located about 300 meters north of the current Kaitai-ji temple.
