Matsumaura Japanese Castle

Matsumaura Japanese Castle

Matsumaura Japanese Castle is one of the four Japanese castles built on Geoje Island during the Bunroku Invasion. The mountain castle has a circumference of 4m, a height of 420m, and a width of 3m, and is said to have been built by Fukushima Masanori, one of Toyotomi Hideyoshi's loyal retainers, known as the Seven Peaks Spear. However, after Toyotomi Hideyoshi's death, Fukushima Masamune sided with Tokugawa Ieyasu, won the Battle of Sekigahara, and claimed territory up to Hiroshima.

Matsumaura Japanese Castle was built at a very important military location, and can be reached by climbing about 100m up the mountain behind Nagaki Kyudojo. At the top of the mountain is a site estimated to have been a command post of about 50mXNUMX in area.
