Gwangju National Museum

Gwangju National Museum was established in 1978 with the aim of preserving the cultural heritage of Jeollanam-do and was reopened in September 2010. It has a collection of approximately 9 relics, and many cultural assets, including three national treasures, are on display.

This museum exhibits artifacts from the Gwangju Shinchang-dong Archaeological Site, which was excavated in Shinchang-dong, Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City and is designated as Historic Site No. 375, and dates from the end of the Iron Age to the beginning of the Proto-Three Kingdoms period.

It displays artifacts from the prehistoric, medieval and early modern periods by era and theme, and also has a special exhibition room and a children's museum. It also displays artifacts from the Shinan shipwreck, which was excavated off the coast of Sinan County, which is neighboring Mokpo City.
