Hello. In the Yeongsan River basin, which runs for about 115 kilometers from Damyang County in South Jeolla Province to Mokpo City in southwestern South Korea, there are many keyhole-shaped burial mounds and large turtle coffin burial mounds that show that there was active exchange between ancient Japan and the Korean Peninsula.

Located in the Yeongsan River basin, the areas of Shinchon-ri, Daean-ri, and Deoksan-ri in Pannam-myeon, Naju City, are home to over 30 turtle coffin tombs that are distinct from those of Baekje culture. In the center of the area is the Naju National Museum, Jeollanam-do's first national museum, which opened in 2013.

The Bannam Tomb Group is known as the turtle coffin tombs of the Mahan power, which were intensively constructed in the 4th and 5th centuries, before the influence of Baekje had yet reached the area. In particular, Shinchon-ri Tomb No. 34, which is 5 meters in diameter and 9 meters in height, was investigated in 1917-1918 and unearthed 11 turtle coffins, a gilt bronze crown (National Treasure No. 295), gilt bronze shoes, a ring-headed sword, and cylindrical earthenware similar to cylindrical clay figurines from the Japanese Kofun period, providing valuable material for research into the ancient history of Korea and Japan.

The Naju National Museum has one basement floor and two aboveground floors. On the first floor, there are the first exhibition room and special exhibition room for four zones: Dawn of History, Mahan, the Center of the Three Kingdoms, Ancient Tombs in the Yeongsan River Basin, and River Road and Sea Road. On the second basement floor, there is the second exhibition room, which is a storage facility where relics are kept and is used as an exhibition hall. The rooftop garden is designed to offer a panoramic view of the surrounding ancient tombs.
