Hello, Goryeong is the location of Daegaya, which played an active role as the leader of the Late Gaya Empire based on the west bank of the Nakdong River from the second half of the 5th century onwards. On the ridgeline extending to the southeast of Jusan Mountain in Jisan-dong, Goryeong-gun, which is 310 meters high, there are many large and small Daegaya period tombs, including the first tomb in Korea where evidence of burial of the dead was confirmed, and a total of 157 sealed earth tombs remain.
Located on the southern ridge of Mt. Jusan, where the Jisan-dong Tomb Group is spread out, is the Daegaya Royal Tombs Exhibition Hall, where the interior of Tomb No. 1978 of the Jisan-dong Tomb Group, Korea's first burial tomb with the dead, which was excavated in 44, has been restored to its original state.

The Daegaya Royal Tomb Exhibition Hall, which opened in September 2000, is in the shape of a large round tomb measuring 9 meters in diameter and 37 meters in height. Pottery from the Gaya period excavated from the Jisan-dong Tomb Group, Historic Site No. 16, as well as iron horse equipment, a gold crown (replica), and a luminous shell ladle that shows international exchange between Wa and the Gaya people are on display along the circular walled observation walkway.

In the center of the exhibition hall, there are two large stone chambers, the main stone chamber for the king and the burial chamber for the deceased, and 32 small stone enclosures are arranged around it. It is said that people of various ranks were buried in each stone chamber, including the main stone chamber. This is said to be the largest tomb for the burial of the dead during the Three Kingdoms period.

It seems that the victims were buried in this way.

At the top of Jusan Mountain is the remains of Daegaya's Jusanseong Fortress, which is about 700 meters in circumference, so it's a good idea to start from the Daegaya Royal Tomb Exhibition Hall, visit the Jisan-dong Tombs and then hike up to the top of Jusan Mountain.

Goryeong is located on the route to the World Heritage Site Haeinsa Temple, so it might be a good idea to stop by here after visiting Haeinsa Temple to experience Daegaya culture.
