Gaya was a confederation of six countries centered around the Nakdong River basin in the west of Busan, and until the mid-6th century it flourished in iron culture and had exchanges with Japan.
Gimhae National Museum is located at the foot of Gijibong Peak, where the legend of the founding of Daegaya (Geumgwan Gaya) is hidden, and it mainly exhibits cultural assets from the Gaya Kingdoms, including prehistoric remains from the Busan and Gyeongsangnam areas and relics from the Byeonhan region, which was the foundation of Gaya's growth.
Gimhae National Museum, which opened in July 1998, is a three-story building with one basement level, designed to preserve and display the cultural assets of the ancient Gaya nations. The building's exterior is made of black bricks, fully embodying the image of Gaya, the "Iron Kingdom." Compared to the ancient nations of the Korean half of the country, the Gaya nations have fewer ruins and historical materials, so the museum uses the latest archaeological research to depict the Gaya period.
The permanent exhibition rooms on the first and second floors display relics from the prehistoric and Gaya periods.

The exhibition hall on the first floor displays hunting and fishing tools, forage collection tools, farming tools, bronze swords and other relics that allow visitors to experience prehistoric Gaya culture along the Nakdonggang River. Other exhibits include dog bones excavated from Neukdo Island off the coast of Sacheon, relics from Geumgwan Gaya, Aragaya, Sogaya, Daegaya, and Magapchong in Haman County.
The exhibition room on the second floor displays decorations and agricultural remains from the Gaya period, as well as letters, symbols, and various war implements from the Gaya period, while the outdoor exhibition area displays dolmens and stone coffin tombs from the Gaya period excavated from the Chado-ri ruins in Changwon. Near the museum are the Tomb of Queen Suro and the Daeseong-dong Tombs, and visitors can take a walk around the town of Gaya, which exudes the atmosphere of the Iron Kingdom of Gaya.
