Located in Gangneung City, Gangneung Imyoungwan Sammun is the gate of Gangneung Guest House built during the Goryeo Dynasty. Gangneung Guest House had several buildings including Imyoungwan, but most of the buildings were demolished when Gangneung Public School was established in 1929, leaving only this gate from the Goryeo Dynasty. This gate, which was later called Gangneung Guest House Gate, was renamed Gangneung Imyoungwan Sammun in 2014. Gangneung Guest House Gate, built at the end of the Goryeo Dynasty, is the oldest gate still standing and is the only building in Gangwon Province designated as a National Treasure (No. 51). It is also a representative wooden building from the Goryeo Dynasty, on par with Bongjeongsa Temple Geuknakjeon Hall, Buseoksa Temple Muryangsujeon Hall, and Sudeoksa Temple Daewoongjeon Hall.
The Sanmon Gate of Gangneung Imyoungwan has a gabled roof with three bays at the front and two bays at the side. It is a simple building in the Jusimpo style seen in Goryeo-dynasty architecture. The restored Imyoungwan signboard was handwritten by King Gongmin (1330-137400) of the Goryeo dynasty.
