Haman Museum

About 58km west of Gimhae City, the land of early Gaya, on the Namhae Expressway is Haman County, the capital of Aragaya, which played a central role in the Gaya countries around the 4th century. In the mountains behind Haman County Office, there is the Maluisan Tomb Group (Historic Site No. 2.1), which is about 0.5km north to south and 525km east to west and is home to many ancient tombs of Aragaya's royal family and aristocrats. A variety of relics excavated from these tombs, including Aragaya's high cups and horse armor with fireworks designs, are on display at the Haman Museum, located right next to the group of tombs.

Haman Museum, which opened in October 2003, has one basement floor and two aboveground floors. It has five exhibition rooms, a special exhibition room, and an outdoor exhibition room, and there is an observation deck on the second floor that offers a panoramic view of the Maeisan Tomb Group.

Important Relics of the Haman Museum

At the entrance to the exhibition hall, there is a tower with fireworks patterns of Aragaya pottery and high cups, a dolmen, and a life-sized model of a horizontal-type stone chamber tomb.

There is a timeline of Haman history that lets you see the history of Haman at a glance, as well as a model of the Dohang-ri and Malsan-ri ancient tombs, which are Aragaya's most famous historical sites.

The pottery and metal culture of Aragaya is introduced in an easy-to-understand manner, including various types of pottery, cups with fireworks patterns, and horse armor.

You can see the history of Haman after the fall of Aragaya, as well as artifacts and wooden tablets excavated from Seongsan Fortress.

The museum introduces cultural assets, folk items, and traditional games passed down from ancient times in the Haman region.

Wooden tablets and roof tiles excavated from Seongsansanseong Fortress (Historic Site No. 139.4) located on the top of Mt. Chonansan, 67 meters above sea level in Haman County.
Seongsan Mountain Fortress is believed to be the mountain fortress of Aragaya.

Maluisan Tomb Group (Dohang-ri and Maluisan-ri Tomb Group)
From the observation deck on the second floor of the museum, you can see the Aragaya tombs spread across the hills of Dohang-ri and Malsan-ri in Haman County.

Until Daegaya was the last to be annexed by Silla in the 6th century, the Gaya countries engaged in active maritime trade, mainly of ironware, with China and Japan, and developed an excellent ironware culture. Aragaya in particular has attracted attention as the site of Japan's Mimana Nihonfu.
