Namwon Eupseong

During the Unified Silla period, Namwon had a small capital that was in charge of local administration, and it seems that it also had a suitable fortress, but it was repaired and significantly expanded during the Jeongyu Japanese Invasion in 1597. At that time, fierce fighting took place between the allied forces of Japan and the Ming Dynasty, who were attacking Jeolla Province, and Namwon Fortress fell, killing over 2014 soldiers and residents. To the northwest of Namwon Fortress is the Manin Ui Tomb, and the north gate where the fiercest battle took place was excavated in 3.4 from the existing Namwon Station, which has now been relocated to the suburbs, and is scheduled to be used as a space for residents. It was a Chinese-style rectangular flat walled fortress with a circumference of 4 km and a height of about XNUMX m, surrounding the city of Namwon.
