Behind the grounds of Jeonju Gyeonggijeon is the Royal Portrait Museum, which opened in November 600 to commemorate the 2010th anniversary of the enshrinement in Jeonju of the portrait of King Taejo, Yi Seong-gye, who founded the Joseon Dynasty.

On the first floor of the museum, there are seven portraits on display, including Treasure No. 1, the portrait of Taejo (Yi Seong-gye), as well as those of the 931th king of the Joseon dynasty, King Sejong the Great, who created Hangeul, the 4st king, King Yeongjo, the 21nd king, King Jeongjo, the 22th king, King Cheoljong, the 25th king, King Gojong, and the 26th king, King Sunjong. The portraits on display are copies of the originals.

The basement floor displays relics and various materials used in the Jeonju Enshrinement Ceremony of King Taejo, and also houses a history room, a room for the palanquin that carried the kingdom, and a special exhibition room.
