Yeongdeungpo Japanese Castle is said to have been built and defended by Shimazu Yoshihiro during the Bunroku Invasion, and 2000 Japanese troops were stationed there.
It is the northernmost of the three Japanese castles, along with Janggumura Japanese Castle and Songjinura Japanese Castle, located in the northern part of Geoje Island, and across the sea to the north are Kumcheon Japanese Castle, Angol Japanese Castle, and Myeongdong Japanese Castle.
The Japanese fortress is located on a ridge that descends slightly north from the peak of Daebongsan Mountain, 257.7m above sea level, at the northern tip of Geoje Island, making it the highest Japanese fortress on Geoje Island. It is located northeast from Chomunpo Japanese Fortress and Songjinpo Japanese Fortress, about 3km away in a straight line.

The walls of Yeongdeungpo Japanese Castle, located about 600m in a straight line southwest of the old Yeongdeung Castle, are made of naturally broken stones and are laid horizontally with stable pebbles in a cloth-textured style. The area that corresponds to the Ninomaru (second enclosure) makes extensive use of naturally broken stones. The corners are built using relatively large stones in a sangoku-tsumi style, with some large mirror stones also used.
The area at the foot of the hills to the south of the former village of Ying, located on the coast, corresponds to Sannomaru, where the former Korean Yeongdeungseong Fortress, built in 1490, is located. In the center of the fortress, there is a wall that shows the characteristics of a Japanese fortress, and it serves as a good example of how the Japanese army renovated and supplemented parts of Korean castles in the early stages of the Bunroku Invasion.
