Seongheungsanseong Fortress (Historic Site No. 4), located in Imcheon-myeon, Buyeo-gun, Chungcheongnam-do, is a typical Baekje-style fortress built around the peak of Seongheungsan Mountain, 260 meters above sea level. It is an 800-meter-tall mountain fortress from the Baekje period, built of stone on the outside and earth on the inside.

Park your car in a small clearing just below the peak of Seongheungsan Mountain, then walk 270 meters up to the top of the mountain where you will come across a large 400-year-old zelkova tree and a large grassy open space in front of it. If you walk straight along the flat peak where you can see the Geumgang River flowing from Buyeo and the Hwangsan Bridge crossing the Geumgang River in the distance, you will come across a small well on the left and a small hill above the well where you will find the shrine of General Yu Geumpil, a meritorious figure in the founding of the Goryeo Dynasty. The site of the castle gate, which is today's destination, is a little further down the flat road from there.

Seongheungsanseong Fortress was built downstream of the Geumgang River to protect Baekje's Sabi capital (present-day Buyeo) from enemies. It is an important historic site that is the only one that can tell us the date and place name of the time, as it is recorded in the "History of Baekje" in the "Records of the Three Kingdoms" that it was built in August of the 24rd year of the reign of King Dongseong (23th king of Baekje) (501) by Baekje's Wisajapyeong, a high-ranking official at the time. In addition, since the name of this place in the Baekje period was Garimgun, Seongheungsanseong Fortress is also called Karimseong.
The castle walls, made of small square granite stones, are 3 to 4 meters high, and include defensive facilities such as the sites of the south, west and north gates, the site of a military storehouse, three wells, and earthen bastions.
