Located on the gentle ridge of Mt. Songsan, 130 meters above sea level, the Songsan-ri Tomb Group originally contained 17 ancient tombs, but only seven of the tombs of kings and royal family members have been restored, including the tomb of King Muryeong, the 25th king of Baekje.

Tombs 1971 to 6 are horizontal-hole stone chamber tombs, but the Tomb of King Muryeong and Tomb 108 are tunnel-shaped brick stone chamber tombs influenced by the Southern Dynasties of China. Most of the tombs, except for the Tomb of King Muryeong, were robbed and no grave goods remained, but in 20,906, the Tomb of King Muryeong was discovered by chance during drainage work on Tomb 12, which shocked the world. XNUMX grave goods of XNUMX types, including crown ornaments, earrings, bracelets, and necklaces, were excavated, and XNUMX of them are designated as national treasures.

Within the group of ancient tombs is the Songsan-ri Ancient Tomb Model Museum, which has life-sized reproductions and restorations of the Tomb of King Muryeong, Tomb No. 6, and Tomb No. XNUMX. You can enter the models of Tomb No. XNUMX and the Tomb of King Muryeong to view them, and various grave goods excavated from the tombs, as well as pillows and clothing used at the time, are on display, allowing visitors to encounter the splendor of Baekje culture.
Behind the Songsan-ri Tomb Model Museum are the actual Tomb of King Muryeong, as well as Tombs No. 5 and No. 6, and if you cross the mountain ridge where the Baekje royal tombs are located, you will find the Gongju Jeongjisan Ruins, which was used as a ritual facility during the Baekje period.
