Seokjang-ri Museum

The site where the first Paleolithic artifacts were excavated in Korea is located in Gongju, Chungcheongnam-do.

Hello, I am visiting the Baekje Historic Areas, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2015.GongSanseong castleとSongsan-ri Tomb GroupAfter taking a leisurely look around, you can head 6km southeast along the Geum River that runs through downtown Gongju to the Seokjang-ri Historic Site, famous for being the first site in Korea to be excavated as a Paleolithic site. Excavations at the Seokjang-ri Historic Site began in 1964 by Dr. Son Bo-gi of Yonsei University, and were carried out on a large scale 1964 times between 1992 and 13. Seokjang-ri Museum was built in 2006.

The one-story Seokjang-ri Museum has a permanent exhibition hall that displays prehistoric culture from the Paleolithic to the Bronze Age under five themes: "Nature, Humanity, Lifestyle, Culture, and Excavation," as well as a special exhibition hall, a video room, a museum shop selling souvenirs, and a rest area. In addition, in May, which is Children's Day, the museum also holds the "Seokjang-ri World Paleolithic Festival," and various other events that the whole family can enjoy.
