Busan Jinseong Park (Jaseongdae Japanese Fortress)

Hello. Jaseongdae Park, located about a 1-minute walk from Exit 2 of Beomil Station on Busan Subway Line 10, is a 1592th century Japanese castle built during the Imjin War (1598-16) and is currently used as a place of relaxation for the citizens of Busan.

This castle is said to have been built in 1593 (the 26th year of King Seonjo's reign) by father and son Mori Hidemoto and Mori Terumoto, but there is also a view that it was renovated and expanded in 1598 (the 31st year of King Seonjo's reign) during the Keicho Invasion.

According to records, Jaseongdae Park was originally a branch castle, or a subsidiary castle, located in the southeast of Busan Jinseong, a Korean military fortress. During the Imjin War, the Japanese army destroyed Busan Jinseong and built a Japanese-style castle there, which they used as a command post. It is said that they also surrounded the fortress with walls along the eastern and western ridges, and built a 20-meter-long moat (a ditch dug in the earth) by drawing in seawater, so that ships could dock directly against the walls.

After the end of the Imjin War, the Chinese Ming Dynasty's Mansedeok led an army to be stationed here for a while, and it was also called Mangongdae. Later, a wall and four gates were built around Jaseongdae, and it was used as the Busan Jinjunsabaya Camp, but was demolished during the Japanese Empire period.

The current Jaseongdae was built during restoration work carried out from July 1974, 7 to February 8, 1975. The East Gate, West Gate and General Station were newly built and the East Gate was named Jindongmun, the West Gate Geumlugwan and the General Station above Jaseongdae was named Jinnamdae, and plaques to commemorate these names were erected.

Jaseongdae Park is located in Beomil-dong, an area densely populated with restaurants and traditional markets, and is used as a sports park with sports facilities and as a place of relaxation for Busan residents in the city center.
