A restaurant serving delicious Nambu Market-style beans and coconut soup
North Jeolla ProvinceLocal dishes from Jeonju, where the Jeonju Provincial Government is located, include bibimbap, makgeolli, and the hangover-relieving soup Kongnamul gukbap (rice soup with bean sprouts).
Koreans often eat spicy haejang-guk on hangover mornings, but today I'd like to introduce you to Waen-yi Kongnamul Gukbap, a restaurant that specializes in light and healthy Kongnamul Gukbap (soup rice with bean sprouts) and is dotted around Jeonju.

Waenyi Kongnamul Gukbap is one of the three best Kongnamul Gukbap in Jeonju.
Upon entering the shop, you will see metal containers stacked with soft-boiled eggs (suran).
Traditional Jeonju Kongnamul Gukbap is made by simmering rice and bean sprouts in a ttukbaegi (small clay pot) with seasonings such as green onions, but this is a southern market-style Kongnamul Gukbap made by pouring rice and pre-simmered bean sprouts over a dashi soup made with kelp, finely chopped squid, onions, etc.

Kongnamul Gukbap is served in a metal bowl with a soft-boiled egg (suran) and a bag of Korean seaweed. Pouring torn pieces of seaweed and a little bit of gukbap soup over the soft-boiled egg (suran) and mixing before eating is said to stimulate the appetite and also replenish missing protein.
The salted shrimp on the table can be used to adjust the light taste of the gukbap, and when eaten with salted squid, well-made cabbage kimchi, and kkakdugi, you can enjoy authentic Korean kongnamul gukbap.
You can also have as many refills of bean sprouts and kimchi as you like, so feel free to add more.

They also have Jeonju's specialty mother liquor (moju) which costs 1,500 won per glass.
Makgeolli is a drink made by boiling glutinous rice, jujube, ginger, ginseng, brown sugar, etc., but most of the argol evaporates during the process, so it is a sweet drink that feels more like a herbal medicine than an alcoholic drink. If you drink a cup of mother liquor with hot and spicy Kongnamul Gukbap, you will probably be able to get rid of the fatigue from a hangover.
It also houses a portrait of Yi Seong-gye (Taejo), the founder of the Jeonju Yi dynasty of Korea.GyeonggijeonとJeonju Hanok VillageHow about Waengyi Kongnamulgukbap, which is conveniently located near famous tourist spots in Jeonju?
