Located about 30 minutes by car from downtown Pohang on the east coast, Guryongpo is a town that prospered 100 years ago thanks to fishermen who immigrated from Kagawa Prefecture in Japan. Currently, there are many steamed crab specialty shops selling snow crabs, and Guryongpo Market has many shops selling gwamegi, a winter delicacy and Pohang specialty. Gwamegi is a dried fish made by freezing and thawing blue fish such as saury and herring in the cold winter and then fermenting and drying them.
