Pyeongchang, located in the southern part of Gangwon Province, where the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics (2018.2.9. (Fri) - 2.25. (Sun)) were held, is located in the Taebaek Mountains, and highlands over 700 meters above sea level account for 6% of Pyeongchang's area. With cool summers and cold winters, there are a variety of leisure sports facilities that can be enjoyed all year round, and with the amount of snowfall being high in Korea, winter sports facilities such as Yongpyong Ski Resort are crowded with tourists who come to enjoy winter.
To the north lies Odaesan National Park, 1,563 meters above sea level, and to the east is Gangneung City, the terminus of the Korea High Speed Rail (KTX) from Seoul.
