Uljin County, located in the northeast of North Gyeongsang Province, borders Gangwon Province's Samcheok City and Taebaek City to the north, North Gyeongsang Province's Bonghwa County and Yeongyang County to the west, and North Gyeongsang Province's Yeongdeok County to the south.

Major tourist attractions include the 15km-long Bulyeongsa Valley (Scenic Spot No. 6) and the Seongryu Cave, estimated to have been formed 2 million years ago, located south of the city. The main cave is about 5 meters long, and the smaller caves that extend on all four sides reach 330 meters. About 540 meters of the cave are open to the public.

Uljin has Mangyangjeong and Wolsongjeong, two of the Eight Views of the Kanto Region on the east coast of Daegwallyeong. The other Eight Views of the Kanto Region are Gyeongpodae in Gangneung, Samilpo in Goseong, Jukseonru in Samcheok, and Naksansa in Yangyang.

There are also famous hot springs in Korea, Deokgu Hot Springs and Baekam Hot Springs, and the World Eco-Friendly Agriculture Expo was held there twice, in 2005 and 2009. The Expo Park is located in Soosan-ri, Geunnam-myeon, Uljin-gun. Uljin-gun, North Gyeongsang Province, is a representative nuclear power plant area in Korea, and Uljin-gun is proud of its abundant marine products, including Uljin snow crab, centered around Hupo Port and Jukbyeon Port.
