Jangsaengpo Whale Museum

Jangsaengpo Whale Museum

The Jangsaengpo Whale Museum is South Korea's only whale-specialized museum, showcasing the history of Jangsaengpo, a former whaling base, and the ecology of whales. As of 2026, it is a central facility within the Whale Culture Special Zone and attracts many visitors.

The museum consists of three floors, allowing visitors to grasp all kinds of information about whales at a glance.

Children's Experience Center (1st floor)To help children feel closer to whales, the museum offers interactive exhibits such as a journey into a whale's belly and a trip into the ocean.

Whaling History Museum (2nd floor)The museum displays actual whaling tools and artifacts used until whaling was banned in 1986. Visitors can see the actual skeletons of large blue whales and orcas.

Fin Whale Museum (3rd floor)This exhibit introduces the ecology and migration routes of the fin whale, a symbol of the waters off Ulsan. There is also a model recreating the area where whales were once butchered, allowing visitors to experience what it was like back then.

Jangsaengpo Whale Culture Village

The nearby Jangsaengpo Whale Culture Village is a theme park located on a hill accessible on foot or by monorail from the museum, and it faithfully recreates a whaling village from the 1970s.

Since the route from the museum to the cultural village is uphill, the most popular route is to take the Jangsaengpo Monorail uphill, enjoy the ocean view while visiting the cultural village, and then descend again.
