According to the city of Gyeongju in North Gyeongsang Province, comprehensive renovation work will be carried out on Cheonmachong Tomb, a popular tourist attraction in Gyeongju, for six months from mid-September 2017, meaning that viewing of the ancient tomb will be restricted for the time being.
First excavated in 1973 and opened to the public in June 1976, Cheonmachong is a representative Silla tomb built between the late 6th century and early 47th century, with a diameter of 12.7 meters and a height of 5 meters.
Cheonmachong Tomb, one of the large Silla tombs scattered throughout Gyeongju, is Tomb No. 155 and was named after relics that were used as mudguards attached to the flanks of horses that were excavated there.
