Gongju National Museum explores ancient art from the 63-year Baekje period

It is a representative temple of the Baekje and Ungjin periods and is known as the oldest temple discovered in Korea to date.

Located in Gongju, Chungcheongnam-do, this is the site where the first Paleolithic artifacts were excavated in Korea. After taking a leisurely tour of the Baekje Historic Site, Gongsanseong Fortress and Songsan-ri Tomb Group, which were registered as UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 2015, we went about 6km southeast along the Geumgang River that runs through Gongju to the site of Korea's first Paleolithic artifacts.

Songsan-ri Tombs, where the remains of kings and royal tombs from the Baekje period are located, were built in Ungjin (now Gongju City, Chungcheongnam-do), which was the capital of Baekje for 538 years until the capital was moved to Sabi (now Buyeo County, Chungcheongnam-do) in 64.
