It is a large and famous temple and is counted among the Sangboksasas in Suncheon Songgwangsa, one of the "Samboksas" in Korean Buddhism, along with Beopbosasas in Hapcheon Haeinsa and Bulbosasas in Yangsan Tongdosa.

Suncheon Bay, located in the southern part of Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do, is a representative wetland that has developed on the southern coast of Korea. The reed beds and the japonica colonies on the tidal flats, as well as the S-shaped waterway, combine to create a beautiful coastal landscape that is a scenic spot. This is the site of a castle where a fierce battle took place in 1598 (the 31st year of King Seonjo's reign) between the Japanese army of Konishi Yukinaga stationed in Suncheon Japanese Fortress and the allied forces of Korea and China's Ming Dynasty!

The filming location for "Dae Jang Geum", which was broadcast on NHK in Japan in October 2004 and caused a huge sensation, is also home to the Dae Jang Geum set, the prison, Dong Heon, the watermill, and other buildings, making it a popular spot for drama fans to visit even today!

It was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site (Mountain Temple, Korean Mountain Monastery) in June 2018, and the approach to the temple is gently sloping and has a beautiful atmosphere selected by the Korea Tourism Organization, making it more famous than the temple itself.
